Chronic Pain is a sign that your body thinks you are in danger...

If any of the above pictures are resonating with you, then you are likely to be familiar with the implications of living with chronic pain or to have repeated bouts of acute pain. The implications of living with pain go far beyond the actual injury, ailment or condition, they often have a considerable impact upon sleep, happiness, confidence, relationships, self esteem, career, weight and fitness to name but a few!

Treatments for pain often involve medications that create further health issues and side effects, But they don't address the cause, they are no better than sticking a plaster on the problem, you take the plaster off and the pain is still there. 

Chronic pain is partly an issue with the communication systems within your body that have trigger pain in response to something that is now no longer a threat, e.g. past injury, illness or trauma. Even if you have current injury or disease, these methods will enable you to feel calmer, more confident and happier in your day to day life.

You can't not do something by trying not to do it

When we are in pain we invariably focus on it, well that's the point, it wants to tell you something is wrong. This has the adverse effect of increasing our pain and usually the stresses, strains and anxieties surrounding it.

So what would it mean to you to learn to take control of your body, to learn skills that will switch off that pain response to enable you to manage and lessen not just the pain, but the impact it is having on your life, and the lives of those around you? 

My pain management programmes use a combination of CBT, Hypnotherapy, NLP, Coaching and Mindfulness and gentle movement to provide scientifically supported methods to lessen pain and it's impact on your quality of life.

How mind based therapies helped me

Pain management techniques and the immense power we have within us to manage it, is a subject very close to my heart, as a teenager I was diagnosed with M.E. and Fibromyalgia. In the subsequent 30+ years I have had a multitude of other joint and soft tissue issues that left me registered disabled, on crutches, anxious and feeling like I had no control over my life. I have more recently been found to have a Hypermobility spectrum disorder that accounts for some of the pain and mysterious symptoms. But I now know the level of fear I had in my own body contributed significantly.

I have an intolerance to medication so I had a choice, to sit and suffer or find another option. I initially chose NLP, about a month after my first class I was off my crutches, and not long after I was free of being registered disabled. I was beginning to learn that I had the power inside me to lessen pain and anxiety just as easily as I had been increasing it! Since that time I have studied further, initially Hypnotherapy, coaching, counselling and cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy, then more recently completing my Mindfulness based Cognitive Behavioural Diploma to add to the skills I have, this has enabled me to not only help myself, but to help others lead a life they felt was out of their reach.

I am not pain free, I probably never will be, my body is telling me things aren't quite right, it is the way my body is made, but I lead a full and active life, working within the boundaries of my capabilities, but I am happy, confident and calm, and I really am the person I always dreamed I could be...

Before signing up for this programme it is important to understand that it's effectiveness is greatly influenced by the amount of work you are prepared to put in. I am going to provide you with the equipment and tools to take back control of your body and mind, the more you use them the more effective they become.

It is a bit like being given an exercise bike, if you use it regularly and embrace the concept of all you have to do to get physically fitter, you will get results. But if it sits in the corner of the room and you use it as a clothes horse you wont get any changes!
